Vitamin D and our Health
Have you ever wondered why during the winter times, you feel a little down, your bones a little sore and achy and you skin more inflamed?
The answer to these problems probably lies with your low intake of Vitamin D. When we have a proper routine and meet the sun every waking morning, not only are we improving many other things like our circadian rhythm, but we are ensuring we intake Vitamin D as well.
The concept of vitamin D being healthy is not new for most of us - in fact when our parents tell us to ‘catch some sunlight’ it directly makes us soak up the precious vitamin, which is vital to our living.
However, what is it about the vitamin D that makes it so special and necessary and how does it link to the common symptoms we get in winter? Furthermore, what are the benefits of implementing increased uptake of this vitamin?
Vitamin D is a substance that increases the uptake of calcium from our diet in our gut, as well as promoting the uptake of phosphates. Seeing as both calcium and phosphates arecrucial for our bone and teeth health, you can see why decreased uptake of Vitamin D might affect your bone health, especially in the winter months.
Furthermore, the importance of Vitamin D on the health of our skin cannot be understated due to its unique ability of reducing inflammation. One may see some improvements in facial acne when consuming Vitamin D, as the modern western diet does contain a lot of inflammatory substances that find ways to express themselves on our faces.
Another reason to consider your uptake of Vitamin D during the harsher months is the weather supplying dry and cold spells which would induce inflammation on the facial skin.
Due to me not being native to the merciless, dull, lifeless and sunless climate that seems to revolve around England throughout the year; it is especially important to have a very convenient source of vitamin D. Therefore, buying them as supplement (like in the photo below) is extremely important.
